Orientation/Pre-Orientation Student Coordinators
The Student Coordinator position plays an integral role in the planning, coordination, and execution of all programs and initiatives for new students and family members entering Emory College of Arts and Sciences. The team is comprised of student leaders who work directly with professional staff members, fellow students, and across campus.

Student Coordinator Positions
Each year we select around 11 Orientation Coordinators and 5 Pre-Orientation Student Coordinators who assist us with these programs. Included in this are Student Coordinators who work specifically with Transfer Orientation. Student Coordinators have the following responsibilities:
- Be present for all scheduled training including the Student Coordinator Retreat, Spring ECS 100: Peer Mentoring and Leadership Course, Spring and August staff training.
- Hold one office hour each week.
- Communicate progress and complete all tasks before/during summer 2023.
- Assist with all elements of recruitment and selection of 2023 Orientation Leader team (includes applicant information session, marketing and outreach efforts, etc.).
- Manage a team of (Pre-)Orientation Leaders, holding them accountable to the expectations of their role.
- Serve as liaisons and points of communication for campus guests, community partners, and university departments.
Frequently Asked Questions
Student applying to be a Student Coordinator should have previously held the role of an Orientation or Pre-Orientation Leader. Additional requirements include:
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing for the 2023 Spring, Summer, and Fall Semesters.
- Ensuring tasks are completed ahead of(Pre-)Orientation
Spring 2025 - Student Coordinators will be required to take part in ECS:100 Peer Mentoring and Leadership. The course will meet once a week on Mondays from 4:00-6:00pm. In addition, Student Coordinators will be required to hold at least one office hour in the Spring Semester in order to receive credit for the class. SCs attend the Student Coordinator Retreat.
Summer 2025 - Some Summer work may include virtual meetings and conversations to ensure task are completed in advance of Orientation/ Pre-Orientation.
August/Fall 2025 - Student Coordinators will complete a Fall Training in addition to attending and participating in the Orientation/Pre-Orientation Leader training ahead of the Orientation/Pre-Orientation programs. In addition, Student Coordinators will be asked to help with various programmatic events during Weeks of Welcome and 2026 Student Coordinator Recruitment and Selection.

Our programs seek motivated students who are looking to make a positive influence on the new Emory student experience. This will require Student Coordinators to take initiative and step-up to various challenges.
In order to be an effective Orientation Student Coordinator, we ask students to be, above all else, flexible and adaptable. In addition, SCs are expected to serve as a leader-of-leaders and model the way for being humble, hard-working, and enthusiastic members of the Orientation Team.
Leadership development is at the core of becoming a Student Coordinator and as such we take special steps to ensuring students are prepared to take on this role.
Student Coordinators will take place in a credit-bearing course called ECS:100 Peer Mentorship and Leadership. Through the course, students will be exposed to Leadership Development best-practices and have a chance to develop in the areas of peer supervision, event planning, collaboration, and more.
