Expectations of RSO Advisors

By accepting the advisor role, advisors agree to the following:

  • Act in the best interest of the student organization leaders and its members.
  • Confirm their advisor role during the annual re-registration process.
  • Student Organization Advisors are considered a “Campus Security Authority” (CSA) as defined by the federal Clery Act. You are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act crimes that are reported to you while serving in this role to the Emory Police Department or the Office of Clery Act Compliance; and for completing annual Clery Act training as provided by the Office of Clery Act Compliance (see Emory’s Clery Act Compliance policy, Policy 1.7, for further details).
  • Offer guidance to the student organization to ensure the group follows proper procedures and policies. Advisors are asked to refer to the Student Code of Conduct and maintain regular communication with Student Involvement, Leadership, and Transitions if there are any questions.
  • Have a conversation with the student organization and agree on a set of expectations for one another from the onset, possibly even writing a list as a binding agreement. This will help maintain a consistent, high-quality relationship.
  • Maintain regular communication to stay aware and well-informed about what is happening with the student organization.
