Summer Outdoor Adventure Retreat (SOAR)
Summer Outdoor Adventure Retreat (SOAR) offers small group experiences facilitated by highly-trained peer leaders for outdoor adventures including hiking, river tubing, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, camping, and backpacking. Participants will spend time each day discussing topics relevant to preparing themselves for life at Emory and forming strong friendships with other group members. Learning outcomes focus on community, leadership, outdoor technical skills, and other skills transferable for everyday life and Emory University experiences.
Each SOAR crew is made up of 8-10 incoming first-year participants and 2 peer trip leaders. Many of our SOAR trip leaders participated in SOAR when they were incoming first-year students and have returned to lead these experiences for you! Leaders are certified in wilderness first aid and have successfully completed comprehensive leadership and outdoor recreation training programs. All SOAR trips are beginner friendly. No previous experience necessary.
To learn more about each trip type, including level of challenge and level of remoteness, please see each trip description.
