Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy

According to Policy 8.8 (Alcohol and Drug Abuse Policy) events with alcohol require additional planning and expected actions to ensure the health and safety of all event attendees.

The following management strategies must be in place in order for alcohol service to be permitted:

  • The president and event planner/risk manager of the Recognized Student Organization must attend a Campus Life sponsored training session that includes content about hosting events with alcohol.
  • Alcohol acquired with university funds, including kegs of beer, is allowed only if a licensed caterer or trained non-student server serves the alcohol.
  • Additional items are provided for free to supplement the alcoholic beverages including substantial non-salty foods/snacks, water, and non-alcoholic beverages.
  • An age verification plan must be used to confirm each attendee's name. This can be done by signing up for and checking out Emory OneCard readers through the Emory OneCard Reader (Age Verification) Request form on The Hub or another verification plan such as hired security.
    • A plan to verify each attendees’ age outside of the Emory OneCard reader must be approved through the event registration form. Please note Emory OneCard Readers Request Form must be submitted at least 15 days prior to the event.
  • The president, event planner/risk manager, and advisor must be in attendance for the entire duration of the event until the last attendee has departed.
  • The president, event planner/risk manager, and advisor may not not consume alcohol the entirety of the event.
  • Alternative transportation must be provided for all attendees to ensure safe rides home.
  • No secondary planned event or impromptu gathering (e.g. “after-party”) involving individuals from the same organization or attendees from the registered event may occur.
  • Alcohol may not be served at private residences on behalf of a student organization.
  • Alcohol may not be shipped to others as part of an event/program on behalf of a student organization.
  • Student organizations are responsible for complying with any applicable regulations from their national organizations.
  • Under no circumstances is alcohol to be left unattended.
